Our coalition commends Senator Mills, Senate President Stivers, and other sponsors of Kentucky Senate Bill 349 for taking much needed steps to help ensure a reliable supply of electricity for the citizens of Kentucky.
Despite repeated warnings from energy officials and grid operators, federal and state policies continue to undermine the reliability of our electricity supply by forcing the premature retirement of dependable sources of electricity. As a result, the PJM and MISO grid operator regions, which include large parts of Kentucky, are at risk of future electricity shortages that could trigger rolling blackouts or brownouts for millions of homes.
Enacting Senate Bill 349 ensures that proper analysis is done before decisions are made by the Public Service Commission to allow the retirement of dependable electricity sources. This is an important step towards securing a reliable and affordable energy future for all Kentuckians.
