Frankfort, KY – Today, Dependable Power First Kentucky sent a joint letter to Governor Beshear and the Kentucky General Assembly urging support for electric reliability and affordability. The letter was co-signed by chambers of commerce, local economic development organizations, Kentucky businesses, small and family business advocacy groups, and current and former public officials united by common concern over the prospect of a grid reliability crisis.

In the letter, the groups write:

“We are at a critical moment where actions taken to preserve grid reliability today will determine our state’s economic future. Nationally, there has been recognition that this problem needs to be addressed, including by modifying EPA regulations and measures to include grid reliability. However, it might be a long while before these solutions come into effect, and this problem is too important for Kentucky to rely on federal officials who lack the same perspective and focus on what matters most in our state.”

“Therefore, we respectfully request that you take deliberate steps to educate and inform your colleagues and constituents of the importance of maintaining a reliable electric grid ready to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.”

“Electric reliability affects all Kentuckians and is essential to our economy and way of life. Education on this issue is critical to ensure that we learn from and avoid repeating mistakes made elsewhere,” said Dependable Power First Kentucky of the letter. “We are proud to have led this effort as part of our broader mission to raise awareness of the critical importance of electric reliability and affordability and are deeply grateful for the support of our co-signers and members. We strongly urge Governor Beshear and the Kentucky General Assembly to prioritize this issue before a broader electricity crisis becomes inevitable.”
